Celebrate Chinese New Year at Creative Discovery Museum

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. (January 3, 2017) – Join Creative Discovery Museum and celebrate the year of the Rooster during our annual Chinese New Year celebration on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 from noon to 4:00 p.m.

The celebration will feature the Chien Hong Lion Dance Troupe as they present two Lion Dance performances in the Museum Atrium at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The Chien Hong School’s martial arts performing group will also present a martial arts demonstration at 2 p.m. The martial arts group includes national and regional competitors and award winners in various martial arts contests in America and Taiwan R.O.C.

“Creative Discovery Museum’s Chinese New Year event is a special time for families to celebrate a cultural tradition while engaging in a rich and colorful arts experience,” said Liza Blair, Arts Manager at Creative Discovery Museum.Museum guests will also spend the afternoon celebrating with additional festive activities including constructing masks and puppets, learning how to use chopsticks and tasting a Chinese dumpling.Chattanooga-area folk dancers will also present traditional Chinese dances and routines during the event.

Funding for the artists’ performances is made possible by Arts Build and the Tennessee Arts Commission.

About The Chien Hong Lion Dance Troupe

The Chien Hong Lion Dance Troupe has been serving the Atlanta area since the Chien Hong School of Kung Fu's opening in 1995. The troupe is the oldest continuously-performing Lion Dance team in the area. Chien Hong School Wu Guan's Chinese martial arts performing group consists of a group of expert martial artists and is the only martial arts team that emphasizes on-stage performances.
